It is 9:00 o'clock here. We are heading to bed. We have no power in the apartment. We leave at 6a.m. to head to the region.
Ricky and I with Masha went to pick up the papers. We went to the same office building. This time down 3 stairs. Waited in the hall. Then, after the others before us went in, we went in the room. A lady sat behind a desk. Masha told our names. We showed our passports. We were handed our paperwork and thanked the lady and left. Short visit again.
So then I bought the missing t-shirt and we headed to the car.
Masha and Vitalik had picked us up around noon. They took us to the history museum at "Metal Mama". Andrew enjoyed climbing on tanks, helecoptors and statues outside from WWII and Afganastan. Inside was history museum. The most disturbing thing we saw was a pair of gloves made of human skin. There was also soap made from human fat. Heart wrenching muesum.
We ate pizza across from the Fat House. We had a taxi and Vitalik's car in the morning. Slovic met us at the pizza place. He drove us the rest of the day. That was awesome because it began to hail, sleet and later snow.
Next another museum. This one about Chernobyl. We learned things like; other countries knew how bad it was before the people in the region knew. None of the workers that helped clean up had sufficient protection on. Most of them probably died. Masha's father was to drive that day to pick up people to take them out of the area. His car broke down and he was unable to drive that day. All those he knew that drove that day are dead. They took many trips to pick up thousands of people. After the explosion there was a pig born with 4 front legs. It had 2 back legs, each with 2 feet. Ok, enough sadness.
They went to the Finicular (incline). Then we went to see the statue of the founding fathers. We saw Kiev by night in the car. Very beautiful!
We invited the 3 of them in for cake and tea.
Time for Masha to go pack and the kids to go to bed!
More progress. More sightseeing. More time with friends!
